Neck pain is persistent or recurrent condition with chronic or persistent neck pain affecting upto 1 in 5 of the population. Most people do not experience a complete resolution of symptoms with 50 – 80% reporting episodes of neck pain within 1 – 5 years.
The Bone & Joint Decade Task Force on Neck Pain and it’s Associated Disorders have recently published a report redefining neck pain and it’s management. This report is the culmination of 7 years work from more than 50 researchers from 9 countries and 19 different clinical and scientific disciplines. The great majority of patients have been found to have Grade 1 or 2 neck pain. Massage has been confirmed as a “treatment worth considering” for patients suffering Grade 1 or 2 neck pain.
