Richdales Institute has been providing training in the field of Complementary Therapies for over 25 years.
Our Courses Director, Dr Rishi Loatey outlines 20 amazing ways our courses and training have moved forward to benefit you, our students, over this time!
People have been enjoying the many benefits of complementary therapies for thousands of years; and while the basic techniques haven’t changed, the ways in which they are taught have! With the advancement of technology and positive tweaks to teaching methods over the years, there has never been a better time to study at Richdales!
Want to see exactly how our training has developed over the last 25 years? Here are 20 amazing ways our courses have moved forward to benefit you, our students:
Back in the days before modern technology, we taught our material from a special type of projector that projected from a text book which was very ‘cutting edge’ at that time! These days use PowerPoint!
As technology continues to progress, our students reap the rewards of the studying in a virtual learning environment.
Did we mention that not a single one of our students has ever failed their practical massage exam? And this is a record we are set to keep, as our students are developing even better practical skills by watching videos as they learn in addition to using the comprehensive manuals which have always been provided.
Our examinations have changed a lot in 25 years! Back in the day, students would have been expected to answer essay style questions along with drawing diagrams (who said anything about taking an art class?!) but government regulations have changed theory exams to multiple choice format.
25 years ago, any pre-course training material was sent out via post. These days, email does the job a lot quicker!
All cases studies used to be hand-written. We still use hand written case studies now, but they’re also available in Word documents, which can make life a whole lot easier!
Before the advent of email (remember those days?), our students would post copies of case studies and assignments to their tutors so that they could be given feedback at their next attendance day. Now, email makes it so much quicker and easier (and there are no longer any mishaps over the wrong postage being paid!).
We now use a greater amount of case studies in our courses, which offers our students a greater practical experience. This provides students with a greater opportunity for feedback from tutors before they qualify.
Our students are now completely prepared to practice in the real world. We don’t just teach the course material; we help our students to put together a business plan on how they will develop their practice. Once you gain your diploma, you’ll be ready to get to work straight away!
We now include a formal First Aid qualification as part of our courses.
In the ’80s’ the field of complementary medicine was very personality driven, this resulted in many smaller groups/associations being formed with differing standards and approaches. With improving standards and increased regulation there are now fewer associations to join when you qualify. We are also hopeful that the government will move towards statutory regulations.
Students now get to study anatomy and physiology in way more depth, which underpins all knowledge on the course itself. There were training schools that simply gave their students a textbook to read in the student’s own time. We must say that we never followed that approach. Anatomy and physiology is a core element of our course material.
Our courses are taught by a much wider range of teachers than they were 25 years ago! A single course may come with 4-5 teachers who offer individual areas of expertise.
Attendance has increased by up to 40% on some of courses, so there is a lot more student/ teacher interaction! The more you communicate, the more you learn!
Our classes are now focused more heavily on the practical side of learning, giving our students a hands-on learning experience.
In our aromatherapy courses, the number of essential oils now covered has increased by 50%!
We now teach a wider range of ways to use aromatherapy skills such as making creams, shampoos, masks and inhalations, which helps our students to develop a successful practice and treat more people more effectively.
We don’t just use examinations to test your skills; a lot of material is assessed by assignments and coursework. Different students prefer different styles of learning and we offer something for everyone!
25 years ago there was a wide variety if textbooks that tutors and students could reference. With improving standards, set text books have been selected for consistent reference to prepare students for exams. We provide these text books to our students.
And finally, as a student of ours, you will know the specific marking criteria for all of your assessments and examinations, making it much easier for you to pass!
Your success is our priority and we are continually improving to ensure that we deliver the highest quality of complementary therapy training in London. We’ll never stop working hard for you.
